
We are pleased to announce a call for abstracts for an upcoming book that examines the psychological dimensions of Bleach. This collection will explore the rich psychological themes embedded in the series, uncovering the complexities of their relationships, personalities, and archetypal roles. By connecting the Soul Society’s narratives to real-world psychology, this book aims to offer insights that resonate with fans, academics, and psychology enthusiasts alike.
Synopsis:
This book dives deep into the psychological, and psychospiritual world of Bleach. High schooler Ichigo Kurosaki finds himself spirited away into the Soul Society, and as a substitute Shinigami he faces off against numerous foes. From the Hollows to the Quincy and even fellow Shinigami, each foe represents an archetype to be explored in this book. Furthermore this book will touch upon numerous psychological themes on the nature of death, duty, and connection. The application of these numerous themes with real-world psychology will surely excite both scholars and fans of the franchise.
Call for Abstracts:
We invite submissions for chapters that explore psychological themes related to Bleach Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- The Unworthy God: Aizen’s delusions of grandeur and god complex
- “In or out?”: A breakdown of the social dynamics and identities in each of the different organizations in Bleach
- Shikai, Bankai, and Mastery: How Mastery over the Zanpakuto reflects self-mastery in life
- Life Beyond Death: Unpacking the Psychology of Death in a world of Shinigami
- The Hollowfication of the Human Soul: and unprocessed Grief and Trauma
Submission Guidelines:
- Abstracts should be between 250–300 words and clearly indicate the topic(s) being addressed.
- Include a brief biography (100 words max) detailing your expertise or interest in the subject.
- Submissions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere or created using AI.
- Deadline for Abstract Submission: 5/1/2026
- Accepted Chapter Deadline: 9/30/2026
