Frequently Asked Questions
Geek Therapy encompasses many different paradigms of thought, intellectual curiosities, and specialized interests outside of “normal” social conformity. This can range from the more well-known areas of video games, comic cons, and TV shows to the less well-known topics of board games and verbose fantasy novels. Yet, there are clinicians who use these geek cultural artifacts to promote social normalcy, community, reduce anxiety and depression, and help clients understand who they are through their interests.
These modalities have been resulting in clients having less anxiety (e.g., social), less depressive symptoms (e.g., after playing video games), improved self-esteem, richer interpersonal interactions, greater social and school engagement, and greater development of social skills and problem-solving. Geek Therapy is being used to improve overall psychological well-being across all ages, as well as focusing on the specific needs of targeted populations, such as those with ADHD, ASD, PTSD, and mood and anxiety disorders.
Yes! We are accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) for all of our live and homestudy courses.
We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, and Paypal.
To end recurring payments to you, from My Account Billing on your student dashboard, students can hit Cancel for that subscription or payment plan.
We do not currently offer a free trial on our subscription packages.

We have at least 2 live training’s per month.
You will need your computer system, internet, a web browser, and a subscription to one of our packages or purchased alle carte.
We add in the new courses from live training’s every month about 30 days after the live training has ended to ensure the quality of the edited video is perfect for you.
Unfortunately not for the Heroic Plan. You must be on either the Legendary or Mythic plans in order to obtain one of the certifications. This is due to accreditation standards across the world.

Step 1: Subscribe to Geek Therapy Education by choosing either the Legendary or Mythic package.
Step 2: Take Cultural Competency courses.
Step 3: Take a Cultural Competency Exam.
Step 4: Take additional classes and consultation hours.
Step 5: Take the Certified Geek Specialist Exam
You have to complete 40 hours of Continuing Education Hours through our Legendary or Mythic Geek Therapy Education package.
The first exam for Cultural Competency is free and included in the Legendary and Mythic packages, but the second exam for Certified Geek Specialist or Certified Geek Therapist is $400. if you sign up for our Mythic package, you will receive 50% off of the Certified Geek Specialist or Certified Geek Therapist exam which will reduce the cost to $200.
Yes you can once you have submitted a copy of your license to us and we have verified it.
You receive a Certificate, licensed rights, digital badges, promotional materials which are directly licensed to you, physical materials (including a badge) mailed to you, placement in our “Find A Geek Specialist online locator” and a 20% discount to all of our Geek Therapy materials bought through Geek Therapeutics.
